Penn State Lehigh Valley students from the race and ethnic relations class taught by Jennifer Parker Talwar spent Feb. 24 at Velocity in downtown Allentown interviewing Lehigh Valley entrepreneurs about global and local business practices, international trajectories, creative capital and work-family visions. This project is a research-based initiative intended to reinvent the classroom in a real world environment while bringing together students, business owners and community partners. This semester, Parker’s class will be utilizing Penn State Lehigh Valley’s co-working space in Velocity for its business accelerator, Lehigh Valley LauncBox, which is a signature program of Invent Penn State.

Community members and county officials joined Penn State Berks faculty, staff and students, as well as Penn State Health St. Joseph physicians and administrators, for the inaugural event announcing the Langan LaunchBox on Oct. 25.
In partnership with Penn State Health St. Joseph, Penn State Berks has received a $50,000 seed grant as part of the Invent Penn State initiative. On Oct. 25, the two institutions will hold an event to announce the joint initiative at the new Langan LaunchBox, located within Penn State Health St. Joseph’s Downtown Reading Campus.
Penn State Berks has hired its first AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer, through the Pennsylvania Campus Compact (PACC) VISTA program, to help facilitate the joint health initiative between Penn State Berks and Penn State Health St. Joseph. Lisa Weaver began working in the position in August 2016.
