Penn State Berks honored two current students and one alumna during this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Banquet on Jan. 18. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year's event was held virtually via Zoom.
Josh Flores was one of more than 30 students nationwide to receive a scholarship from the World Affairs Council of America (WACA) to attend the WACA 2019 National Conference from Nov. 6–8 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The Flemming Creativity, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Center, located within the Penn State Berks Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building, will hold its biannual Creativity and Entrepreneurship Workshop on Nov. 11 for Reading School District students enrolled in the Penn State Educational Partnership Program. The goal of the program is to explore the concepts of creative thinking and entrepreneurship.
Gabriela “Gabby” Gonzalez Magana is a Penn State senior majoring in computer engineering with a concentration in robotics. She emigrated to the United States from Mexico in 2011 at the age of 13. “Now, I am making plans to graduate with a B.S. in computer engineering from Penn State in December 2020 and want to earn a Ph.D. and work in industry," Magana said.
Flores is the first Berks student to be awarded and to take part in the Cultural Vistas Fellowship, a fully-funded summer internship program specifically designed for students for whom such international opportunities might otherwise be out of reach.
