Pedro Noguera, urban sociologist, will discuss education reform and diversity at Penn State Berks at 7 p.m. Feb. 15, in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. Noguera, an urban sociologists and an advocate for a strong and vibrant public education system, is a professor in the Steinhardt School of Education at New York University. He also is the director of the Metro Center for Research on Urban Schools and Globalization. His scholarship and research focus on the ways in which schools are influenced by social and economic conditions in the urban environment. His most recent book is "City Schools and the American Dream: Reclaiming The Promise of Public Education." Noguera has published more than 100 research articles, monographs and research reports on topics such as urban school reform, conditions that promote student achievement, youth violence, the potential impact of school choice and vouchers on urban public schools, and race and ethnic relations in American society.
