READING, Pa. — Penn State Berks will host the screening of the film Racing to Zero, followed by a presentation by Jane Meeks, executive director of the Berks County Solid Waste Authority, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in room 5 of the Luerssen Building on the Berks campus. The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be provided.
Racing To Zero is a quick-moving, upbeat documentary tracking the mayor of San Francisco’s pledge to achieve zero waste by 2020, focusing on San Francisco’s waste stream diversion tactics and presenting innovative new solutions to the global problem of waste. By simply substituting the word “resource” for the word “garbage,” a culture can be transformed, and a new wealth of industries can emerge. This film documents a surprising, engaging and inspiring “race to zero."
The film screening is part of the Waste Reduction Campaign, which kicked off on Nov. 1. Racing to Zero is one of four films that the Sustainability Team will screen this year. The film fest is part of a larger effort to raise awareness of waste pollution and to encourage individuals to reduce their ecological footprint. The three other films, True Cost, Just Eat it and Tapped, will be screened for the campus community.
