“Imagine a World Without Standards” is the 2022 theme for the Penn State University Libraries Standards Week observance.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In observance of the American National Standard Institute’s World Standards Week in October, Penn State University Libraries is planning an afternoon of activities from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 12 with the theme “Imagine a World Without Standards.”
“This event will focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which project to address social imbalances, develop a sustainable economy and slow the rate of climate change,” said Denise Wetzel, science and engineering librarian in the Physical and Mathematical Sciences Library at Penn State University Park.
The Libraries has planned a variety of activities to help engineering students, faculty and postdoctoral scholars at six campuses — University Park, Altoona, Behrend, Berks, Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre — learn the role of engineering standards in daily life activities as well research and classroom learning experiences.
“Understanding the resources available for instructors and collaborative learning activities for all attendees will provide a deeper understanding of how international standards and conformity assessment are important to our society as a whole,” Wetzel said. “This event celebrates the inclusive and equitable mission of World Standards Week.”
