Penn State Berks event will inform community leaders about opioid crisis

Penn State Berks and Caron Treatment Centers will host a presentation titled “What Every Community Leader Needs To Know About The Opioid Crisis” on June 4, 2019.

WYOMISSING, Pa. — Penn State Berks and Caron Treatment Centers will host a presentation titled “What Every Community Leader Needs To Know About The Opioid Crisis” from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, in Room 121 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building, on the Berks campus.

The presentation is limited to the first 65 registrants and breakfast will be provided. Attendees must register in advance at the event website.

Presenters Doug Tieman, president and CEO of Caron Treatment Centers, and Dr. Joseph Garbely, medical director of Caron Treatment Centers, will lead a discussion that will include how to identify potential problems in a workforce; how to help employees, co-workers and families who may be struggling with the disease of addition; and how addiction may be impacting businesses.

The idea for this event came from Penn State Berks Advisory Board member Barry Schlouch, who has hosted a similar event at his business. He stated that it is important for more community leaders to develop a better understanding of the opioid crisis and its impact on families and businesses in the community.?Barry and Deb Schlouch are co-owners of Schlouch Incorporated.
