Justin DiAngelo, associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at Penn State Berks, was recently elected to the Drosophila Board of Directors of the Genetics Society of America (GSA), the leadership body of the Drosophila research community.
He will be representing faculty and students at primarily undergraduate institutions performing genetics research using the model organism Drosophila melanogaster from 2020-23. He will also be responsible for overseeing the process of awarding Victoria Finnerty Undergraduate Travel Awards, which are GSA-sponsored awards that provide funds for undergraduates performing Drosophila research to present their work at the Annual Drosophila Research Conference.
DiAngelo’s main area of research is the study of how cellular metabolism is regulated under different nutrient conditions using Drosophila melanogaster, the fruit fly, as a model. He provides an opportunity for students at Penn State Berks to assist him with his research and has served as a mentor to many students.
